Channel Churches Care is a newly formed organisation providing support to Channel residents affected by COVID-19.

Program Coordinator Kristin Ginn, said today that the organisation is focusing on helping as many people as possible, with meals and food packages already being delivered to people needing support

“We are fortunate to have a great team of volunteers who are really keen to do their bit for those in need in the Channel community.” Ms Ginn said.

“We are offering this free service to any residents of the Channel area who live between Huntingfield and Woodbridge.”

Summerleas Christian Church, One Way Church, Kingborough Family Church, and Margate Christian Church are partnering with community organisations Brookfield Shed at Margate, Loaves and Fishes and Foodbank Australia to deliver the new support services.

Assistance can include food, firewood, clothing, help accessing government support and other practical assistance and, for residents who may be feeling socially isolated at this time, there is also online company available.

Margate Christian Church Pastor Matt Bain is one of the enthusiastic church leaders who are supporting the initiative.

“We were conscious of the many challenges being faced by members of our community and wanted to do something practical to help,” Mr Bain said.

“We want to stress that the program is obligation free but if people wanted someone to pray with them or explore Christianity, we would be happy to provide that kind of fellowship, but again, only if requested.”
