A new walking map was launched at a bush picnic attended by 150 locals at the Taroona Schools Reserve on Sunday, May 2.

The Track Down Taroona map, partly funded by a Kingborough Council COVID-19 grant, was recently distributed to all 1400 households in Taroona, along with a flora and fauna poster.

Acting Mayor of Kingborough, Cr Jo Westwood officially launched the map, with Kingborough Councillors Cr Flora Fox and Cr Amanda Midgely also in attendance.

The event was organised by the Taroona Community Association and Taroona Environment Network, with the initial idea of a humble morning tea turning into a bush picnic, as local people and their ideas came together.

The morning’s events included a propagating event, birdwatching walk, scavenger hunts and a free morning tea.

Morning tea was delivered by the Ozus Coffee van, supported by a Communities Tasmania Neighbour Day grant. 

A natural bird bath creation is also planned for the site.
