Woodbridge Water Fest

Woodbridge Water Fest

The Woodbridge Water Fest took place in ideal weather at Silverwater Park on the weekend of February 20.

Locals were encouraged to turn out in nautical dress for the occasion.
The latest event on the Woodbridge Life 2022 anniversary-year calendar was organised by Ann Dechaineaux and the Woodbridge Community Association Committee.
Woodbridge Life 2022 committee chairman Graham Rae said the event began with a welcome to Country, given by Graeme Seabourne, and a blessing by Anglican Minister Dr Leslie Borowitska.
“On offer were a range of regatta-inspired activities and entertainment designed to pay homage to the continuity of the water-based activities that once played a prominent role in local life,” reported Graham Rae.
“Long-time Channel resident and fisherman Morrie Wolf gave the opening address,” noted Mr Rae.
“Wandering minstrels Ned Trewartha and “Brian the Flute” provided a musical backdrop.
“They were supported by a performance of sea shanties from Marco and Fabian Lo Shiovo.
“The square rigger S V Rhona H was on hand to take passengers out on a short scenic cruise, while skiffs and pacers were available for visitors wishing to experience sailing first hand.
“Children availed themselves of the ever-popular Social Circus, with more strenuous activities including tug o’ war competitions for both children and adults.
“David Wanless and his Dance Folk Tasmania group added to the nautical atmosphere with demonstrations of the “sailor’s hornpipe” and the like.
