Kingborough bake off with TasPride

Over 50 cakes championed the TasPride Festival with their bold colours and designs in the Great Kingborough Bake Off held on Saturday, February 17.
TasPride holds their festival every year in February, in addition to a range of other events.
The Great Kingborough Bake Off had three age categories: the U12s, 12-18s and an Open category.
The U12s baked cakes under an open theme, the 12-18s under a rainbow theme and the Open category looked to TasPride's annual theme Together We Can for inspiration.
Kingborough Councillor Amanda Midgley, cake decorating professional Yen Chamberlain and Working it Out CEO Lynn Jarvis were the judges.
The cakes were judged solely on appearance, with some cakes sliced open at the baker's request to reveal rainbow insides.
Jaelah Holloway's cupcakes were deemed the winner in the U12s category, Finn Abbott's cake won the 12-18s category and Heather Laverne's two cake construction won the Open category.
Kingborough Councillor Amanda Midgley thanked attendees for a great turnout during her open address.
Cr Midgley said the bake off is part of Kingborough Council's commitment to diversity and inclusion and that she looks forward to seeing more events like this in the future.
