CBD transformed

CBD transformed

The transformation of Kingston CBD is underway with the southern lane of Channel Highway now open to traffic.
Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said some of the new footpaths had been poured which had improved access to many of the restaurants and cafés in Kington's CBD.
"Work on the upgrade is continuing with new footpaths, garden beds, and some small art pieces are starting to appear along the main strip," Cr Wriedt said.
"There is still footpath work to do at the end of John Street, Hutchins Street and outside Commonwealth Bank, but over the next three to four weeks much of the large work will be completed.
"Once the footpaths and road works are finished, landscaping will commence, and installation of street furniture will follow.
"The north bound lane of Channel Highway is likely to be opened for vehicle traffic by the end of July."
